License Plate Recognition has been around for a long time and is a rapidly growing technology commonly used by PD’s and SO’s. We’ve been told that it’s for “officer safety” and to more efficiently catch the bad guys. Despite promises by local law enforcement to guard your private information, there’s a growing collection of data that’s being stored by the developers of this LPR software. The data can be shared to other law enforcement agencies as a web of information on citizen behaviors and can be legally used to predict your future behaviors. Learn more about this AI technology and the potential outcomes on our community here in Kootenai County. Additional links and resources below.
