Official Call for Public Debate Between Dan Wilson and Robert Norris

Dan Wilson for Kootenai County Sheriff 2024 is challenging the incumbent sheriff Robert “Bob” Norris to an official, fair, and legitimate debate.

The campaign to elect Dan Wilson for Kootenai County Sheriff opines that the Sheriff Bob Norris “SHOW YOUR PROOF CHALLENGE” of Thursday, March 14, 2024, did not meet the criteria of a legitimate public debate. Following are the disqualifying factors of the SHOW YOUR PROOF CHALLENGE:

  • The invitation for Dan Wilson to attend the Sheriff Bob Norris SHOW YOUR PROOF CHALLENGE did not have an agreed upon date, time, or location
  • The SHOW YOUR PROOF CHALLENGE did not have a nonpartial moderator acting as a neutral party for debate and discussion or to offer neutral questions to both, or all participants
  • The SHOW YOUR PROOF CHALLENGE put on by Sheriff Bob Norris was a Bob Norris re-election campaign event including Norris for Sheriff merchandise sales
  • The SHOW YOUR PROOF CHALLENGE was a staged event by the campaign to re-elect Sheriff Bob Norris, and under his color of authority Bob Norris was bolstered by another elected official to discredit Dan Wilson. Bob Norris failed to provide adequate evidence or any visual proof to refute the questions that Dan Wilson has raised to the citizens of Kootenai County regarding his concerns of the Bob Norris KCSO administration

According to the Federal Election Commission of the United States of America, a debate must be structured so that it does not promote or advance one candidate over another. Acting in the spirit of the FEC’s structure of a fair and appropriate public debate, this call for debate must meet the following criteria:

  • The debate must be staged by a person or organization that is not owned or controlled by a political party, committee, or candidate
  • The location of the debate will be agreed upon by both the campaign to elect Dan Wilson for Kootenai County Sheriff and the campaign to re-elect Robert Norris for Kootenai County Sheriff
  • The date and time of the debate will be agreed upon by both the campaign to elect Dan Wilson for Kootenai County Sheriff and the campaign to re-elect Robert Norris for Kootenai County Sheriff
  • The debate moderator will be agreed upon by both the campaign to elect Dan Wilson for Kootenai County Sheriff and the campaign to re-elect Robert Norris for Kootenai County Sheriff
  • The debate moderator must be nonpartial to a political party, committee or candidate, and act as a neutral party for debate and discussion and to offer neutral questions to both debate participants
  • In accordance with the Idaho Secretary of State campaign regulations, Sheriff Robert Norris may not use his color of authority, current office, or official capacity to promote, respond, or represent this upcoming public debate

It is in Kootenai County’s best interest to understand the history, values, experience, expertise, and qualifications of both candidates who will appear on the ballot in the general November election for Kootenai County Sheriff. It is for the best interest of the citizens of Kootenai County that the campaign to elect Dan Wilson for Kootenai County Sheriff is extending this invitation to Robert “Bob” Norris to a fair and ethical public debate.

It is requested that the campaign to re-elect Bob Norris respond to the scheduling of this public debate no later than September 15, 2024. If no response is received on or prior to this date, the campaign to elect Dan Wilson for Kootenai County Sheriff will host a public town hall where Dan will present his concerns regarding the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office under the administration of Sheriff Bob Norris, including the presentation of the evidence to support his questions and concerns. This alternate event by Dan Wilson for Kootenai County Sheriff would also include an open-to-the-public question and answer session to offer non-staged, unrehearsed transparency to the citizens of Kootenai County.

Kootenai County Commissioner Bruce Mattare

The General Election is on November 5, 2024.
