WHO IS DAN “DW” WILSON THE IDAHO SHERIFF?
PERSONAL LIFE, HOME & FAMILY
Dan can be described as a modern-day John Wayne, embodying the image of a strong, reserved in speech, cowboy, or soldier. In many ways this personifies the idealized traditional American values. He can often be found sitting with men both young and old, while making it a priority to lead and mentor the next generation. Dan knows that mature men are the backbone of this Country, but young men are required for the vitality, strength, and endurance of Life, Liberty, and Property.
With an appreciation of the arts including music that ranges from symphonic movie scores to heavy metal, Dan has a multi-faceted and diverse knowledge of arts and entertainment that spans the decades. He listens to movie scores from Braveheart or John Williams while driving, and blasts Alter Bridge, Metallica, and Guns n Roses during his early morning workouts.
While not easily swayed due to his strongly held beliefs, Dan welcomes spirited debate. He has always made it a priority to be taught by trusted and respected sources and believes that there is strength in wise counsel. Dan is firm in his knowledge of the Bible and puts into practice his personal convictions. He believes in the God of the Bible and that prayer is necessary and effective. While devoted to God and his beliefs, he welcomes conversation with those who think, speak, or believe differently.
Dan began studying the US Constitution on his own when he was old enough to drive to bookstores and purchase books about the Constitution and our country’s Founders. Over the years he has continued his studies of American history and the Constitution as he has observed the reduction of our rights as citizens after the events of 9/11 and the Patriot Act. He is also enrolled in Hillsdale College’s online courses for American History and the US Constitution.
In his early 30’s Dan became committed to making his health a priority as a more sedentary lifestyle led to becoming overweight and unhealthy. The personal discipline of daily workouts is now a part of Dan’s routine, and is part of his character. He knows that as Jocko Willink says, “Discipline equals freedom” so he continues to prioritize strength and cardio training as part of his duty and responsibility. He has enjoyed the challenge of Spartan races, and has recently begun practicing as a Jiu-Jitsu white belt. He continues to pursue areas of physical discipline and new skills for his personal strength and growth.
Dan is committed to his family and loves spending time at home. While 3 of his 5 children are grown, he still has a busy household with his wife Dawna and 2 youngest daughters. Home is a peaceful place where he can enjoy a cigar and whiskey, read, journal, and make plans for the future.
