LAW ENFORCEMENT SUPPORT FOR DAN WILSON FOR KOOTENAI COUNTY SHERIFF
As career law enforcement professionals, we understand the importance of personal character and professional ethics in successfully leading a law enforcement organization. A strong and successful law enforcement leader also possesses the traits of temperance and personal accountability as an example to the organization. From both personal observance and reported conduct we the undersigned do not believe Robert “Bob” Norris has displayed or possess the necessary character as described above to effectively oversee the sheriffs’ department. Additionally, he has stated publicly that personal character is only as important as professional experience. We believe all the employees of the Kootenai County Sheriff’s office, as well as its citizens, deserve better. To this end we believe that Dan Wilson is the better candidate to lead and develop our sheriff’s department into a more professional and responsive organization for the citizens of our county.
We the Undersigned:
“I endorse Dan Wilson for Kootenai County Sheriff. Dan is the most mature and professional candidate in this race, and his work in bringing to the public the deceptive resume of Bob Norris is a public service. I also urge retired LASD in North Idaho to wake up and see the same arrogant BACA Tanaka attitudes that took down our fine Department are at play here in Bob Norris, and I assure you he is not who he seems. On the job, I never let you down in LA, and I assure you what I am saying here is for your own good. Vote Dan Wilson for Sheriff. “
Under the leadership of Sheriff Bob Norris, the staffing situation at the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office has reached a point of critical mass. Recruiting efforts to attract new qualified deputies are marginal at-best. Any measures by Sheriff Norris and his command staff to reduce the continued exodus of experienced deputies is ineffective.
As a fifteen year retired veteran of the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office, I will state without reservation that continuing to request additional funds for staffing from the BOCC and requiring existing deputies to work twelve hour shifts with mandatory and excessive overtime is counter-productive.
It only serves to compound the existing problem of staffing. It does not work. It is also unsafe and unhealthy. As one experienced deputy who recently left the Sheriff’s Office told me, “I will not allow the department to work me into an early grave because they cannot fix the staffing problem.”
The winds of change are on the horizon.
Dan Wilson is not a political hack with an underlying agenda.
Dan Wilson is obligated to no one including the RINOS within the Kootenai County Republican Party.
Dan Wilson is an ethical man.
Dan Wilson has a common-sense business approach to achieving positive results for difficult issues.
The citizens of Kootenai County and the deputies at the Kootenai County Sherriff’s Office deserve better than Bob Norris. My wife and I fully support Dan Wilson in his bid for Kootenai County Sheriff. My wife and I will vote for Dan Wilson. We suggest you do the same.
Dan Wilson has demonstrated that he possesses the skill to manage a successful organization in the private sector. He was even able to keep his business open and profitable in Spokane during COVID. His law enforcement experience as a reserve for 12 years gave him a deep respect for the career. As sheriff, his job is not to work the street or be intimately involved in conducting investigations, his job is to lead and direct the agency to respond and protect all the citizens of the county. Dan is not a politician and has shown that he is honest, direct, and transparent. Robert “Bob” Norris has said that character is equally important as experience. I strongly disagree. Successful CEO’s often run businesses they don’t have a lot of experience in because they have the leadership skills and character which they bring into management of the organization. Running a high functioning law enforcement organization is far more about leadership, character and managerial skills that it is about knowing details about the traffic code. I believe we need a sheriff focused on the agency and it’s level of professional service to the county and not on himself. In this election my choice is Dan Wilson.
“I am taking a stand and feel you should all do the same. I am supporting Dan Wilson for Kootenai County Sheriff.”
